The film directed by J. A. Bayona will be nominated for Best International Film.
The Spanish Film Academy has chosen the film La sociedad de la nieve, directed by J.A. Bayona, as the Spanish representative in the 96th edition of the Oscar Awards. The actress Bárbara Lennie, accompanied by the president of the Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite, announced the decision of the academicians in a ceremony that took place at the Film Academy.
This is the second time that a work by Bayona has represented Spain in Hollywood, since The Orphanage was chosen in 2007 for the 2008 Oscar race.

We will have to wait until December 21, 2023, when the Oscar shortlist will be published, to find out if The Snow Society continues its race for the Best International Film award. On January 23rd we will know the list of the five films nominated in this category and the Oscar ceremony will be held on March 10th, 2023.
