Samson et Dalila in Grand Avignon

Our costumes have shone in the Opera Samson et Dalila; co-produced by the Maestranza Theatre of Seville and the Festival of Mérida (where it premiered on 10 September 2019).

Costume designer: Ana Garay

Costumes: Peris Costumes

Paco Azorín’s production was initially planned for March 2021 at the Opéra Grand Avignon, before being postponed to June 2023 due to the pandemic.

An ambitious project that welcomes on stage members of groups of different abilities and brings together more than 70 extras from different social classes, including people with reduced mobility and children from the Grand Avignon.

Based on the biblical story found in the Old Testament ‘Book of Judges’, the opera tells the story of the Hebrew general Samson who loses his virtue and strength when he allows himself to be seduced by the beautiful Delilah. What the general ignores is that the filibuster is only seeking revenge for his people.
