Director Alejandro Amenábar’s new challenge: El Cautivo (The Captive)

The internationally acclaimed Spanish director is embarking on a new film project that promises to thrill lovers of the seventh art.
The team of ‘El Cautivo’ has carefully chosen the iconic locations of Valencia and Alicante to bring this captivating story to life. Part of the filming will take place at the prestigious Ciudad de la Luz studios, where renowned filmmakers such as J.A. Bayona, Ridley Scott and Francis Ford Coppola have made their mark.

Scheduled to begin shooting in April 2024, the film will immerse us in a captivating tale inspired by a true episode in the life of the famous writer Miguel de Cervantes. At the young age of 28, Cervantes was captured by Barbary pirates off the coast of Catalonia, beginning a five-year captivity in Algiers. Throughout this period, multiple escape attempts ensued, creating a story full of drama, intrigue and bravery.

Costume designer: Nicoletta Taranta.

We are proud to be part of this project. Although an exact release date has not yet been set, ‘The Captive’ is expected to hit cinema screens and streaming platforms in late 2024 or early 2025, just in time for awards season.
