The Film Academy celebrated the Tribute to Professionals 2023, in an event that demonstrated that cinema is one of the most collective professions that exist, impossible to carry out without the participation of a large number of professionals.
“Through the award winners Sara Barquín, Fernando Beltrán, Estrella Caballero, Miguel Pedregosa and Elena Vilardell, we extend our applause to those who, with trades that for the viewer may go unnoticed, collaborate to continue making us dream through cinema,” said the president of the institution Fernando Méndez-Leite.
Costume designer Pepe Reyes presented the award to Estrella, and highlighted her work as a saddler at Peris Costumes, which today is a reference in everything to do with leather in national and international cinema.
Estrella thanked excitedly this recognition and expressed a very special memory for her husband and partner in the leather workshop, Fernando Santamaría, “Who would have told my mother that today I would dedicate myself to making film costumes, when she was the one who sat me in a chair with a needle and a thimble to keep me still”, her voice broke when she spoke of Fernando, who passed away in 2021. “This recognition is not only mine, but also that of the person who has been with me all my life, working side by side. He is my husband, Fernando, who will be the best teacher for me and for many others. With his teachings, he and his art will remain alive in every work I do because he is the best craftsman I have ever met in my life,” she said.
Estrella was accompanied and supported by her family, her colleagues at Peris Costumes and her friends on a very special day.
Congratulations Estrella for this well deserved award, we are proud of you.
