Directed by Paul Urkijo, Gaua blends the mythological world of nocturnal beings with the imagery of rural superstition. Premiering at the 2025 Sitges Film Festival to great audience acclaim, the film follows the box-office success of Urkijo’s Irati, the highest-grossing Basque-language film in history.

Gaua is Urkijo’s third feature after Irati and Errementari, once again combining fantasy with historical reality. The film stars Yune Nogueiras (La infiltrada, Akelarre), alongside Elena Irureta (Patria), Ane Gabarain (20.000 especies de abejas), and Iñake Irastorza (Ventajas de viajar en tren, Todos estamos invitados). The cast also includes Xabi “Jabato” Lopez, Erika Olaizola, Manex Fuchs, and Elena Uriz, among others.
