91 years later, Frankenstein’s monster finds love again. This will happen in The Bride, a bold reimagining of the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and set to premiere in 2026.
The newly released trailer reveals a version that moves far away from the original material, offering a brave, contemporary vision with a strong visual identity and a completely new narrative approach. The film features costume design by Sandy Powell, whose work plays a key role in shaping the film’s striking aesthetic.
Gyllenhaal is joined by an unrecognizable Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster, his face fully disfigured, alongside Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), who emerges as the true protagonist, fantastically characterized and emotionally compelling.
Rather than a traditional horror film, The Bride feels closer in spirit to Bonnie & Clyde, focusing on a dysfunctional relationship while still delivering raw and unsettling moments. The monster seeks a life companion, but the tone, style, and storytelling are entirely new, more refined and relationship-driven.
The cast also includes Peter Sarsgaard, Penélope Cruz, and Annette Bening. Behind the camera, Maggie Gyllenhaal continues to grow as a director following the critical success of The Lost Daughter.
The Bride will be released on March 6, adding to what promises to be an intense and exciting year for fans of reimagined horror.
