Iconic actor John Malkovich has been cast to play legendary conductor Sergiu Celibidache in the biopic The Yellow Tie.
Directed by the maestro’s son, Serge Ioan Celebidachi, and co-written by him and James Olivier, the film promises to be a work of art both cinematically and aesthetically.
One of the highlights of this production is the involvement of acclaimed costume designer Alessandro Lai, who joins forces with Peris Costumes to bring the visual universe of The Yellow Tie to life. With an extensive and prestigious career in the world of film, Lai has demonstrated his mastery in recreating eras, styles and characters through costume, elevating the narrative of each project he is involved in.
Alessandro Lai’s vision: a master of costume on the big screen
Lai has worked on films such as Loro (2018) and Il Giovane Favoloso (2014), where he stood out for his ability to blend with historical accuracy the most refined fashion details of each era. In Loro, a film directed by Paolo Sorrentino about the life of the controversial Silvio Berlusconi, Lai transformed the characters with costumes that reflected power, glamour and excess, perfectly capturing the eccentric style of Italian high society.
In addition to his work in film, Lai has demonstrated his versatility in television projects such as the series Medici: Masters of Florence, where his detailed costume work was crucial in recreating the opulence of the Italian Renaissance. Each garment spoke to the social status, political ambitions and complex personalities of the characters.
