The hit series “Babylon Berlin” is preparing its fifth season, having achieved great recognition both locally and internationally, selling in 140 territories and being distributed in the US by Netflix.
The heads of X-Filme Creative Pool, Stefan Arndt, Uwe Schott and Michael Polle, expressed their gratitude to the partners at ARD and Beta Film for their courage and trust to bring “Babylon Berlin” to a real conclusion together with them. Throughout the years of production, they have seen how the historical past and present have intertwined in sometimes frightening ways. They are grateful to be able to close this cycle with 1933 and show the end of a democracy, with the hope that the present will not repeat what will be seen in the new season.
Thomas Schreiber, CEO of ARD Degeto Film, commented that the program has set standards and proved that Germany can produce successful series on an international level.
Costume designer Pierre-Yves Gayraud has been an integral part of the success of the series, with his wardrobe team collaborating with Peris Madrid to select the costumes and jewelry pieces that will be seen in different scenes. Eudald Magri and Salva Sotos Gutiérrez are in charge of the selection of period pieces corresponding to the darkest period of German history. The new season will be set in the events of February 1933, when the Nazi Party took power.
