Exhibition Homage to Yvonne Blake at the Casa de la Panadería

Madrid celebrates the film legacy of a legend of costume design.

Yvonne Blake, one of the great figures of film costume design, left an indelible mark on the world of cinema. Her talent dressed icons such as Sophia Loren, Ava Gardner, Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Elizabeth Taylor, and her creations marked the memory of millions of viewers around the world. Today, Madrid honours their legacy with a unique exhibition in the emblematic Casa de la Panadería, which has become the cultural epicentre of film costumes.

Organised by the Asociación de Artistas Plásticos, Escénicos y Audiovisuales de España (AAPEE) and sponsored by the Madrid City Council, this exhibition has the collaboration of the Madrid Film Office. Raúl Torquemada, director of the office, underlines:

‘This is an opportunity for the public to discover how Yvonne Blake elevated Madrid to the status of the world capital of film costume’.

The exhibition brings together more than fifty unique pieces that tell the story of an extraordinary career. Visitors can admire original sketches, exclusive photographs and iconic costumes from films such as The Three Musketeers (1973), Superman (1978) and Rowing in the Wind (1988). Each piece highlights Blake’s mastery of combining history, culture and fashion.

The costumes on display have been donated by Peris Costumes, whose archives house gems from the history of cinema. In addition, Yvonne Blake’s family has contributed with figurines and graphic material that complement this exhibition.

This exhibition not only celebrates Yvonne Blake’s career, but also highlights the importance of Madrid as a benchmark in the film industry and in the art of costume.

We are grateful to have been part of the team responsible for this project.
