Checco Zalone’s new film, Buen Camino, has taken cinemas by storm from its opening day on Thursday, December 25. The movie tells the story of Checco, a wealthy and spoiled heir to a sofa-making empire, who is forced to leave his comfortable life behind to search for his missing teenage daughter. His unexpected journey along the Camino de Santiago, full of hardships, blisters, and revelations, becomes the only opportunity for father and daughter to truly get to know each other.
Distributed by Medusa Film, Buen Camino grossed €5,671,922 on its first day, with an average of €7,744 per copy and a 78.8% share of the total box office, which reached €7,195,899. This marks the first time in 14 years that the Christmas box office has exceeded 7 million euros in a single day.
The film’s producer, Indiana, highlights that Nunziante and Medici’s movies have achieved “extraordinary economic results” and a profound impact on audiences. Costume designer Stefano Ciammitti also contributes to the success with wardrobe choices that reflect the characters’ journey and transformation.
Another notable fact is the film’s nationwide appeal: the success of Buen Camino is not limited to southern Italy, traditionally strong for Checco Zalone, but involves audiences across all regions. With this release, Zalone achieves a personal record, surpassing the market shares of Quo Vado (65.6% in 2016) and Tolo Tolo (75.7% in 2020).
