The film El 47, directed by Manuel Barrena, continues to receive recognition after its success at the Gaudí Awards, where it won seven awards. Now, the talent behind the costume design has been recognised with a Goya nomination: Irantzu Campos and Olga Rodal are up for the award in the Best Costume Design category.
Based on real events, El 47 tells the story of the struggle of Manolo Vital, a bus driver who, through neighborhood mobilization and an act of peaceful dissidence, manages to improve mobility in Torre Baró, a suburb of Barcelona in 1978. The film stands out for its visual authenticity, with a costume design that immerses the viewer in the era of the late 1970s.
Campos and Rodal’s meticulous work have allowed for a faithful recreation of the costumes of the period, reflecting not only the fashion, but also the identity and social reality of the characters. Their work has been key to give realism to the story
and complement the work of the art department, headed by Mart Bazaco in production management and Clara Rosell in art direction. With a careful selection of pieces and fabrics, the costumes in El 47 become an essential narrative element that reinforces the nostalgic tone of the film. This Goya nomination recognizes the efforts to bring to life an essential part of Barcelona’s recent history.
On 8 February, the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the winners of the Goya Awards, and El 47 is emerging as one of the favorites in multiple categories.
