On Tuesday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 15, in prime time on Canale 5 (and available on streaming through Mediaset Infinity), premieres Il Turco, the event miniseries that unites Turkey and Italy in a production of international scope. Directed by filmmaker Uluç Bayraktar and starring Can Yaman and Greta Ferro, the series tells a fascinating story set in the evocative landscapes of Trentino, between historical reality and legend.
During the Siege of Vienna in 1683, an officer of the Ottoman Empire named Hasan Balaban (Can Yaman, in his first role in an English-language series), seriously wounded, manages to escape execution and takes refuge in the small village of Moena, in Italy. In this village in the Val di Fassa, at the foot of the Dolomites, he is saved thanks to the healing herbs of Gloria (Greta Ferro), a strong and independent young woman with whom he will live a passionate story of love, desire and redemption. Grateful for the hospitality received, Hasan joins the community and leads a revolt against the oppressors who subjugate the people with abusive taxes.
The silent protagonists of this production include the costume art, carefully designed by Carlo Poggioli – a reference in international cinema – which has contributed its experience and the quality of its designs.
The tailoring work carried out for Il Turco is a tribute to the craftsmanship of Italian cinema: every detail, from the Ottoman silhouettes of the costumes to the embroidery of 18th century European uniforms, tells a story made of study, passion and mastery.
