The Force of Destiny (original title in Italian, La forza del destino) is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave based on the play Don Alvaro, or the force of destiny (1835) Spanish writer Angel of Saavedra, Duke of Rivas, with a scene adapted from Friedrich Schiller Wallensteins Lager. It was first performed at the Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre (then Mariinsky Theatre) St. Petersburg, Russia, November 10 (old date, that is on 22 November) 1862 Verdi felt inclination by the Spanish themes.
